A retro adventure in an eerie apartment

Modelled around classic Game Boy RPGs like Final Fantasy Legend and the original Pokémon, but with a story closer to horror games like Dead by Daylight and Granny, Neighbor puts you in control of a woman who has just bought a cheap apartment. As you guide her around the building you will encounter objects and people to interact with, the twist being that even harmless-looking areas of the apartment could house deadly secrets. If you make the wrong move your game will be over.

A ghost story with a Game Boy aesthetic

Neighbor is a story-driven game, the emphasis being less on challenges and hazards and more on enjoying the ghost story that unfolds as you play. Bit by bit the main character learns about the apartment's reputation for being haunted and encounters a series of strange happenings that grow more unnerving as the game progresses.

Deceptively effective

Despite the limited visual style, the game succeeds in building a creepy atmosphere and will appeal to players who like low-key horror more than frantic action. Over the course of the game, you will need to speak to characters, find hidden objects, unlock access to new areas, and solve mysteries before you can reach the end of the story.

A retro homage

Neighbor captures the feel of the Game Boy classics, but it also brings a new level of storytelling and eerie tension that is rather more modern in influence. Given that it is a free game, there is no reason for players who appreciate retro aesthetics and a good ghost story to miss out on it.
